Ive heard that if you dye it ash first it will replace the red pigment found in brown hair to the green pigment found in blonde hair. if you have any tips please help!

If you hair is VERY ashy naturally, and is ALMOST blonde, you should be able to get your hair dark blonde very easily without bleach. But if you want to go lighter you will need bleach with developer of about 20. Since your hair is not that dark 30 or 40 would be unnessesary, but I would test a lock of hair just to be sure.
